MAZON Canada grants $1000 to Food Market

We are thrilled that the MAZON Canada’s Allocations Committee has awarded HOPE House a 2018 grant of $1000 to support our Food Market!

MAZON Canada raises funds primarily within the Jewish community and distributes them to both Jewish & non-Jewish front-line food projects across the country.

At HOPE House we believe in both the power of food and the power of choice. Our Food Market allows community members the dignity of choosing their groceries through our innovative point system. Much like going to the grocery store with a budget, community members walk through the aisles selecting the food and hygiene items which appeal to their needs.

From April 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018 the Food Market was visited 4,352 times and distributed 143,708 lbs of food!

We are honoured to be recognized for our innovative Food Market program. Thank you, MAZON Canada!

Quotes from HOPE House community members about the Food Market:

“It’s very accessible and it has very healthy food we can’t access other places. The fact that we get a choice to choose from is great! It means we are able to get the food we are going to eat so none goes to waste!” – Wendy D.

“The points system is like shopping in the grocery store. We can’t usually go to a grocery store. The points system is a way to use budgeting skills.” -Bobbie

“HOPE House thank you for the bag of food and recipe for enchiladas. I got this with my first food hamper and I made 5 meals with that bag of food. I sprinkled cheese on the top which added great flavour! Thank you so much!” – Mary H.
