Shari: January Volunteer of the Month

Shari is consistent and always available. She will fill in in a pinch; neither rain, sleet, snow or adversity will keep her away from her responsibilities.

Shari loves and is exceptional in her work with students and groups. She’s got a quirky sense of humour – word play is huge, she’s very punny and always bringing a smile to someone’s face.

Shari has overcome many life challenges and is an example of an advocate for safe housing. You can read more about her origin story with HOPE House here; but Shari’s very condensed version is thus:

Hi, I came to HOPE House looking for winter boots. I found out soon after that they needed help in the Food Market.  Since my life was so messed up I thought “hey this might be a good fit for me!”

Feb 2020 is my third year with the Food Market and I enjoy helping out however I can. HOPE House has helped me change my life, as there are different programs offered & they helped me! If you want to volunteer, it helps put stability in your life. Just having a place to sit and chat and nibble away on food can help out! The reason I stay is because I love what I do and that is very important to me!
