#SustainHope: Commit your support to poverty relief in our community

HOPE House launches #SustainHope monthly donor campaign as long-term community needs are expected to continue to grow as we emerge from the pandemic into new economic and social realities.

Demand for immediate poverty relief has increased substantially since the arrival of COVID-19 and HOPE House has adjusted our programs to step up and meet these needs. Within days of all non-essential services being closed, HOPE House was able to pivot to become a full-on food distribution centre, offering free delivery. In April and May we distributed $80,100 in food. This was our highest figure of groceries ever provided over a two month span. We also saw a 185% increase in our number of intakes when comparing 2019 to the same period in 2020.

At HOPE House, we want to make accessing our programs and services as easy as possible so that community members have as few barriers as possible to getting their needs met. A sustained commitment to community funding is necessary to do all we can to serve these needs. We are inviting the community to join our #SustainHope campaign as a monthly donor to commit your support to poverty relief in our community – today and into the future.

In 2018, Vital Signs reported 17% of Guelph households and 9% of Wellington households were experiencing food insecurity. Since COVID-19, Stats Canada found one in five Canadian businesses had laid off more than 80% of their staff (“Coronavirus ups and downs by the numbers” Macleans.ca/economy). Long-term community needs are expected to grow. Friends of HOPE House monthly donors provide a stable foundation supporting our ongoing operations. They #SustainHope. And all donations are fully tax deductible.

The capital campaign is on hold until 2021 to allow our full energies to support immediate community needs. We have closed the purchase of our building and secured temporary financing to bridge this gap. We welcome inquiries at any time from corporate or individual donors looking to make a transformative gift.
