Thanksgiving Food Drive

20130223_180132As we approach this Thanksgiving, a time for celebrating our families, friends and many blessings, it’s also a great time to pause and think about those who may not be as fortunate this season. At the very same moment that many of us sit down to enjoy our traditional feast, others in our community will be wondering where they will get their next meal. Thankfully there is something we all can do to help these families in need.

All this month HOPE House will be running its Thanksgiving Food Drive to help restock its Food Market. This years’ goal is to collect over 5000lbs of food to help those in our community struggling with food insecurity. Not only is this a great way to help our neighbours out, it’s an opportunity to bring awareness to the very real issue of food insecurity. The fact of the matter is that 12% of our fellow Guelphites struggle with getting enough food to eat.

Fresh Produce in Food MarketThe ability to each well, to be healthy and secure, truly unleashes the significant realm of individuals’ unrealized potential, creating better, more creative, more successful and more engaged citizens. We hope that you will be part of this work!

Donations of non-perishable food items can be dropped off at HOPE House during our operating hours, or at Lakeside Church on Sunday mornings, for the whole month of October.

While you’re downtown, feel free to pick up a pumpkin just in time to decorate for Thanksgiving or carve for Halloween. Your purchase of a pumpkin ($5 for a large pumpkin and $3 for a small pumpkin) will help support the many programs at HOPE House that are working to fight poverty. Pumpkins will be available at HOPE House throughout the week or at Lakeside Church on Sunday mornings from Oct. 6-18. IMG-20130929-00473
